Ollie and Jerry looked out from the cozy owl box. Their Barred Owlet sister, Tinkie, was already out on a limb.
"How did she get out there?" they asked each other.
Jerry decided he would find out later. He hunkered down and took a nap.
Ollie, however, was just so curious. He had to find out.

"Tinkie, how on earth did you get out there?" Ollie finally asked.
"Well..." replied Tinkie, thinking back with a bit of trepidation. "It was like this:"

"I put my left foot in..."

"I pulled my left foot out..."

"I put my left foot in..."

"And I shook it all about."
"I did the Hokie Pokie and I turned myself around."

"That's what it's all about!"

Ollie thought about this for a minute. Looking down, he finally asked:

"So...how are you going to get back in?"
THAT, as it turns out, was almost as hard...
But, Tinkie made it!
The end.

This blog was photographed and written by Susanne Swing Thompson. Thank you for reading it. Like my children's book, Learning to Fly, the story "wrote itself" as I edited the photos.
If you enjoy nature, I send a nature email called "A Closer Look" each Saturday morning. It is simply one of my nature photographs and a short bit of original writing (much shorter than this blog).
